Phoebe Hu

Teaches: Violin and Viola Lessons, Mini Maestros Violin

Biography: Phoebe Hu started playing the violin when she was five years old in her native Taiwan. At the age of twelve, her family relocated to Los Angeles where she was introduced to the viola under the guidance of her teacher, Fung Ho. Since relocating to Delaware, Phoebe continued her studies with Philadelphia Orchestra member, Rachel Ku. She has performed with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, Cairn University Symphony Orchestra, and various ensembles at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. She has also enjoyed attending the National Music Festival and Bowdoin International Music Festival, where she studied with Carol Rodland, Masumi Per Rostad, and Phillip Ying. She obtained her master’s degree in viola performance with Victoria Chiang at the Peabody Institute, where she received the Olga Von Hartz Owens Memorial Prize in Strings. At Peabody, she also took violin lessons and violin/viola pedagogy from Rebecca Henry.

Baltimore School of Music carries a limited selection of music lesson books and accessories for the convenience of Ms. Hu’s students. In line with being a mission-driven small business, a portion of all items sold in our bookstore goes toward scholarships and free programs at the school. The bookstore is open to the public and students can even order books online and have them waiting when they arrive for their music lesson!
