Q&A With Carter McMullen

We're excited to welcome our new piano teacher Carter McMullen! Mr. McMullen will be teaching on Saturdays and will add in Monday through Thursday to his studio beginning in September with our new school year.

We thought we'd as Mr. McMullen some fun questions to get to know him better.

What is your favorite aspect about teaching music?
My favorite aspect of teaching piano is helping students continually learn and grow while developing a passion for music. I find so much inspiration in guiding students to find their own voices and to better express their talents.

When did you first begin teaching piano lessons?
I first began teaching piano lessons in 2002 as an undergraduate at the University of Georgia.

How old were you when you began playing piano?
I began playing piano when I was 6 years old.

What made you want to be a musician?
I began to realize that I wanted to be a musician when the first thing I would do each day after school was to play the piano. I found it to be the perfect outlet for my emotions and after a few years I couldn't imagine any other way of life.

What are some of your favorite classical pieces?
My favorite pieces of classical music for piano are Beethoven's Sonatas, Chopin's Ballades, and Rachmaninoff's Concertos. I also love the lieder of Schumann, the chamber music of Brahms, and the symphonies of Mahler, amongst many other works.
